A 22-year-old Kalamazoo man opened fire during a baby shower at a Girl Scouts facility on Sunday, injuring two men before police found him hiding in a closet.

Pharrell Norman Stacy was arraigned Monday afternoon on six felony charges related to the shooting. He remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.

Two men, both 25, were injured in the incident. One victim was shot in the chest and was hospitalized but later released. The other victim was shot in both legs and is listed in stable condition.

KDPS Officers responded to the Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan Kalamazoo Regional Program and Training Center in the 600 block of West Maple Street around 5:15 p.m. Sunday. Police found a 25-year-old man outside the main entrance with gunshot wounds to both legs. A second 25-year-old man was located inside the building with gunshot wounds to his chest and lower body.

A search of the building led to Stacy hiding in a lower-level closet. He surrendered to police without further incident. Detectives recovered a firearm at the scene.

Judge Richard Santoni presided over the arraignment. Stacy faces two counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of felony firearm, and one count of discharging a firearm in a building causing injury.

The building was being rented out at the time for a private baby shower. Authorities have not yet identified who organized the event or what screening or security measures were required before the space was used.

"It's been indicated that this occurred at the Girl Scout building during a baby shower when shots were fired," Santoni said in court. "I can't imagine anything that's more dangerous to our community."
